WHAT'S HAPPENING
A NOTICE THAT APPEARED in the WHAT'S HAPPENING section of WSW (April issue) erroneously stated that "self help clinics are being offered in Cleveland where women can learn to detect breast cancer, and perform pap smears, abortions, IUD checks, diagnose vaginal infections, get fitted for diaphragms, as well as menstrual extractions." There are some advanced self help groups in other states that are undertaking these activities or exploring the possibility of doing so in the future. If women are interested in getting self help groups started in Cleveland call Cleveland Women's Counseling at 321-8585. Free Clinic East at 12201 Euclid Avenue (721-4010) has speculums available on request for women to use in self examinations.
CLEVELAND HOME FOR WOMEN IN CRISIS is being planned to provide housing for women in crises seeking alternatives. At present there is no place for a woman to stay, particularly if she has children. This will not be another agency where professionals "help" clients who thus remain dependent and powerless. The house would belong to everyone who participated in it. The women would find their own power by helping themselves and each other and learning to deal with the world they live in. If you wish to be involved, call Jan 371-0470 or Paula or Kathy at 631-8769.

OHIO SUPREME COURT RULES ANTI-TRANS— VESTITE ordinance unconstitutional. Columbus,. Ohio (LNS) ---A Columbus city ordinance forbidding persons to dress in the clothes of the opposite sex was ruled unconstitutional in mid-March by the Ohio Supreme Court. The 7 to 0 decision reversed the April, 1973 conviction of John H. Rogers, who was arrested under the city law.
In overturning the city ordinance, the court ruled that the law prohibiting wearing clothes of the opposite sex was too vague. "Clothing is sold for both sexes which is so similar in appearance that a person of ordinary intelligence might not be able to identify

This is the Earth shoe. Anne Kalso invented it. Everyone is trying to imitate it. But just because a shoe look s like the Earth brand shoe doesn't mean it
it as male or female dress," said Chief Justice C. William like the
O'Neill, who wrote the opinion.
"In addition, "wrote O'Neill, "it is not uncommon today for individuals to purposely, but innocently, wear apparel which is intended for wear by those of the opposite sex. Once it is recognized that presentday dress may not be capable of being characterized as being intended for male or female... by a 'person of ordinary intelligence', the constitutional defect of the ordinance becomes apparent."
